1982 Masami Tsuchiya Rice Music Epic/Sony

Recorded at Air Studios, London. This was the first occasion that Steve contributed to another artists' recording and was to be the first of many collaborations with Masami. Also featuring Mick (Karn)

1982 Akiko Yano Ai-Ga-Nakuchane Japan Records

Again, recorded at Air Studios, London. Akiko, wife of Ryuichi Sakamoto (who was reponsible for the production of this recording) is considered the Joni Mitchell of Japan. Mick (Karn) is also heavily featured.

1982 Sylvian / Sakamoto Bamboo Houses Virgin Records

Recorded at Genetic Studios, England. The first true collaboration between David and Ryuichi. A 12" and 7" vinyl release.

1983 Ippu-Do Night Mirage Epic/Sony

Following Japan's last world tour, Steve recorded with Masami in Tokyo before commencing on a tour of Japan with Masami Tsuchiya's own group Ippu-Do along with Richard (Barbieri).

1984 David Sylvian Brilliant Trees Virgin Records

David's first solo recording. The majority of Steve's sessions took place in Berlin.

1984 Yukihiro Takahashi Wild And Moody Alfa Records

Steve worked as drummer with Yukihiro, (former drummer with Yellow Magic Orchestra, turned frontman), on his first ever solo tour of Japan in 1981. Yukihiro and Steve co-wrote the track 'Stranger Things Have Happened' - the first track on this recording.

1985 Ippu-Do Live And Zen Epic/Sony

A live recording from their tour of Japan. Also featuring Richard Barbieri and the bass legend Percy Jones.

1985 David Sylvian Alchemy: An Index Of Possibilities Virgin Records

Experimental recordings that took place at Eel Pie Studios in Chiswick, London. Jon Hassell was also a close collaborator on this material. The track 'Awakening' was co-written by Sylvian / Hassell / Jansen.

1985 Yukihiro Takahashi / Bill Nelson Stranger Things Have Happened Cocteau Records

This Jansen / Takahashi co-write was released on Bill Nelson's own label. It was a double A-Side 12" vinyl release. Other titles were 'Bounds of Reason, Bonds of Love' written by Takahashi / Nelson and 'Metaphysical Jerks' which included Mick (Karn) on bass.

1986 Steve Jansen / Yukihiro Takahashi Stay Close TENT/Canyon Records

Music by Jansen / Takahashi. Lyrics by Jansen. Vocals by Jansen / Takahashi. This was a 12" and 7" vinyl single. It was also later released on Rime Records in the UK. A promotional video was made in Japan. Steve and Yukihiro performed numerous tours together in Japan and there exists a laser disc of a show from the '86 tour when the track 'Stay Close' was performed. Carlos Alomar (David Bowie) was guitarist on that particular tour.

1986 Icehouse Measure For Measure Chrysalis Records

Icehouse frontman Iva Davies met up with Steve on an earlier Takahashi tour of Japan in which Iva was the featured guitarist and vocalist. Steve recorded a few minor percussion overdubs on this album.

1986 David Sylvian Gone To Earth Virgin Records

David's second solo recording was stretched over a considerable period, and sessions took place in various UK studios.

1987 Mick Karn Dreams Of Reason Produce Monsters Virgin Records

The second solo album from Mick. Initially, Mick was working with a reputable producer , but due to a failure to see eye to eye, Mick asked Steve to step in as producer. Apart from performing and programming for the album, Steve also recorded one of his own pieces titled 'Land'. David Sylvian also recorded a vocal on two tracks, one of which (Buoy) was a single release. Mostly recorded in Manchester and mixed in London.

1987 David Sylvian Secrets Of The Beehive Virgin Records

David's third solo release.

1988 Hirayasu Yaguchi Gastronomic Invitation/Victor Records

Yaguchi is one of Japan's top saxophonists. Also a part of the Takahashi touring band. This album was recorded in England and also features Richard (Barbieri).

1988 Narumi Yasuda Ginger Japan Records Tokuma Japan Corporation

Narumi Yasuda, female Japanese pop artist turned actress. This was her second and final album. Steve contributed drums on tracks 1, 5 and 6.

1989 David Sylvian Pop Song Virgin Records

Recorded as a CD and vinyl single release only - this is the 'pop song' that isn't a pop song.

1989 Alice Il Sole Nella Pioggia EMI(Italy)

The first collaboration between Alice (pronounced Alichay) and Steve. Initially, Steve and Richard (Barbieri) were asked to contribute purely as drummer and keyboardist, but became increasingly involved with the final production of the album, to the extent of mixing a few of the titles. The track 'Fait Accompli' is another Jansen / Takahashi co-write.

1990 Joan Armatrading Hearts And Flowers A & M Records

Steve and Mick (Karn) working together on a few of the tracks on this album.

1991 Claudia Brucken Love And A Million Other Things Island Records

Steve previously worked with Claudia when she fronted the band Propaganda. They performed a number of live shows together in London.

1991 Yukihiro Takahashi A Day In The Next Life Toshiba EMI

'Betsu-Ni' the Jansen / Takahashi co-write that originally appeared on the B-side of 'Stay Close' (the single) is re-recorded on this album.

The first evidence of collaborative work between No-Man and Steve, Richard (Barbieri) and Mick (Karn) appears on this single.

1993 Mick Karn Bestial Cluster CMP Records

The third solo album from Mick Karn - recorded in CMP's own studio near Koln - David Torn was greatly involved.

1993 No-Man Painting Paradise One Little Indian

This E.P. includes more from Steve, Richard (Barbieri) and Mick (Karn) on the 21 minute track 'Heaven Taste'.

1993 No-Man Loveblows And Lovecries One Little Indian

The first album release from No-Man which includes the track 'Sweetheart Raw' mentioned above.

1994 Holi Under The Monkey Puzzle Tree Funhouse(Japan)

Akiko Kobayashi, already well known in Japan for her singing and songwriting abilities, decided to move to England and pursue life here in London. Steve and Mick (Karn) produced and performed on this album. Richard (Barbieri) also makes an appearance. Akiko (who changed her professional name to Holi) can also be heard briefly on the recent Eno/U2 album 'Passengers'.

1994 Jakko Kingdom Of Dust Resurgence(UK)

Guitarist Jakko's first solo release (a four track mini-cd) which includes two co-writes with Steve 'Drowning In My Sleep' and 'The Judas Kiss' and two with Richard (Barbieri) 'The Hands Of Che Guevara' and 'It's Only The Moon'. Mick Karn is also featured on this recording.

1994 Yukihiro Takahashi Mr.Y.T. Toshiba/EMI

Track 7 'In This Life' - music written by Jansen/Takahashi with lyrics by Jansen. This track was also issued on the B-side of a single release but with Japanese lyrics and titled 'Eien No Natsu'.

1994 No-Man Flowermouth One Little Indian

Steve plays percussion on the track 'Watching Over Me'.

1994 Richard Barbieri/Tim Bowness Flame One Little Indian

A unique collaboration between Richard and Tim. A collection of atmospheric vocal pieces written by Richard and Tim. Steve performed on numerous tracks and also mixed the album. Includes performances by Mick (Karn).

1995 Hiroshi Mikami Ego BMG Victor(Japan)

Actor and singer Hiroshi Mikamo. Produced by Masami Tsuchiya. Steve is featured on a few tracks along with Richard (Barbieri).

1995 No-Man Heaven Taste Hidden Art / Resurgence

A special compilation of 6 tracks. Once again the 21 minute 'Heaven Taste' appears featuring Steve, Richard (Barbieri) and Mick (Karn).

1996 David Torn What Means Solid, Traveller? CMP Records

Said to be David Torn's finest work to date. Well recommended from all of us here at Medium! Steve sent David a selection of drum loops, and David incorporated one of them on the track 'Gidya Hana'.

1996 Robby Aceto Code Alchemy Records

Robby, formerly 'Red Letter' frontman makes his first solo recording. Steve's drum loops appear on two tracks: 'Bells' and 'Archangel'.

1997/98 Jansen/Barbieri/Takemura Changing Hands Flavour Records/Medium Productions

Steve & Richard merge writing and recording ideas with Nobukazu Takemaura (a DJ remix artist living in Kyoto, Japan). The recording took place over an extensive period with the exchange of tapes to and from the UK and Japan. There was no verbal communication between the two sides. In fact, Steve and Richard first met and spoke with Nobukazu when visiting Japan to promote the finished album.

1997/98 Pulse Pulse Con-Sipio Records/Medium Productions

A writing collaboration between Steve and Yukihiro Takahashi aka Pulse . Featuring various UK musicians and vocalists.

1998 Indigo Falls Indigo Falls Medium Productions

Debut album from Suzanne Barbieri's project. Co-written and produced by Richard. Indigo Falls features contributions from Steve Jansen as well as Mick Karn, Jakko Jakszyk, Setven Wilson and Theo Travis.

1998 Mandalay Empathy V2

Debut album from writing duo Saul Freeman and Nicola Hitchcock. Steve appears on five tracks. Jon Hassell also appears. Produced by Guy Sigsworth.

1998 Nicola Alesini & Pier Luigi Andreoni Marco Polo II Materiali Sonori

Second album from the Italian duo. Steve appears on three tracks. Also features Richard Barbieri, Harold Budd, David Torn and Roger Eno.

Yukihiro's solo release containing 'The Choice' and 'Memory Without Consequence' from the Pulse release.

A remixed version of the writing collaboration between Steve and Yukihiro Takahashi aka Pulse. Featuring remix artists such as 4 HERO / SPACER / DJ SPOOKY and more. There is also a 3 x 12" vinyl box set available.

1998 Yukihiro Takahashi 'Run After You' Live 1998 Con-Sipio Records

A live album featuring Steve and Zoe Niblett from Pulse. Steve sings 'Stay Close' with Yukihiro and Zoe sings 'A River Dry'. Other Pulse tracks included are 'Memory Without Consequence' and 'Prayer Of Gold'.

1999 David Sylvian Dead Bees On A Cake Virgin Records

Steve has contributed to 5 titles from this long awaited solo release froim Sylvian.

1999 David Sylvian God Man Virgin Records

A limited edition CD-R containing a short film by 'David & Ingrid'. 'God Man' is the second single to be taken from 'Dead Bees On A Cake' this release contains three versions as well as two versions of 'Shadowland'.

1999 Perry Blake Still Life Naive Records

Steve recorded with Irish singer /songwriter Perry Blake in London. Perry is virtually unknown in the UK but has become something of a celebrity in Europe, particularly France.

2000 David Sylvian Everything & Nothing Virgin Records

Steve appears on no less than 16 of the 29 titles on this cd compilation. Previously unreleased tracks including Steve are: 'Ride', 'The Golden Way', 'Cover Me With Flowers', 'Some Kind Of Fool' (Japan). Steve also appears on the limited edition bonus cd - track title 'The Scent Of Magnolia (Portobello Mix)'.

2000 Mick Karn Each Eye A Path Medium Productions

Apart from mixing almost all of the album Steve also contributes on drums and sample programming.

2001 No Man Returning Jesus 3rd Stone Records

Steve's characteristic drumming style is featured in various forms on this most accomplished of No Man's releases.

2001 Anja Garbarek Smiling & Waving Virgin Records

An original work by singer songwriter Anja (daughter of Jan Garbarek) featuring such respected artists as Robert Wyatt, Mark Hollis, Theo Travis - with string arrangements by Gavin Wright. Steve added occassional drums and additional percussion.

2001 Sounds Of Flavour Montage Flavour Records

This cd compilation was released by the Japanese label 'Flavour ' as a sampler to promote various titles previously released on the label. Steve contributed an original title 'Now He Dreams' which only appears on this cd (cat.no.FVCC-80133). Also included are Sakamoto, Hanno, The Gentle People and Jansen/Barbieri/Takemura.

2001 Sakamoto & Various Artists Zero Landmine Warner Music Japan

A fund raising release for the clearance of landmines. Music by Sakamoto and lyrics / vocal by David Sylvian. Many artist's contributed performances as well as samples. Steve Jansen performs on drums with Yukihiro Takahashi. Haruomi Hosono also performs which makes it a rare outing for YMO. Top Japanese pop idols were also invited to sing lines from the song which reached number 1 in Japan and raised millions for the campaign. Primarily a single 20 minute track, the release contains various versions, including a piano and vocal version. All versions were also released as a 12" vinyl single.
