MEDIUM : ANNOUNCEMENT
As many of you will already be aware, Jansen, Barbieri and Karn are now concentrating on projects outside of Medium Productions. This
effectively means that, without the trio working as it's nucleus, the company is no longer sustainable. The result being that Medium Productions are handing over operations to The Burning Shed for processing and dispatching online orders from the Medium catalogue.

From the links set out below you can view the new activities of Jansen, Barbieri and Karn as well as visit The Burning Shed for catalogue
details.

Steve, Richard, Mick and Debi would like to thank you all for your excellent support over the years and we sincerely hope that you continue to enjoy and follow new developments as they emerge.

Kate Bush
Mick appears on Kate Bush's next album, 4 years in the making. Mick plays bass on the track 'How To Be Invisible'. We have no release date at this stage.

Mick Karn Session
Mick features on the debut album by Japanese band Losalios, formed by Tatsuya Nakamura, the drummer from the hugely successful group Blankey Jet City whom Masami Tsuchiya produced several albums for.

Mick plays bass on 4 tracks, one of which was a jam session with Masami and Tatsuya and we are therefore not sure whether this will feature on the finished album.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Medium Productions will continue to release new titles periodically as well as any information on its artists’ work - past, present and future. It is still the only official site dedicated to Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and Mick Karn’s jointly owned label and has over the years produced some outstanding recordings otherwise unavailable elsewhere.
For the time being, J B & K will be working on projects that benefit from the involvement of other alternative outlets, a summary of which follows below.

It has always been Medium’s policy that it be used for experimentation outside of the mainstream music business and has every intention of continuing to be so. We will give any relevant information as and when it is received directly from the artists themselves but any collaborations outside of Medium will also have their own websites respectively.

We hope this clears up any nagging questions that some of you may have about our long silence, partly due to the reconstruction of the website itself, but mainly because of our commitment to only post real news as it’s happening and never speculation or trivia.

JANSEN
Upon expiration of David’s deal with Virgin it was always his intention to launch his own label, so naturally the decision of Jansen and Sylvian to collaborate meant that Steve would also be an integral part of this new label. The result is that Steve Jansen will be releasing material via Samadhi Sound and Medium will continue with it’s same capacity to sell past releases as well as introduce new titles periodically. www.davidsylvian.com

BARBIERI
Richard's commitments with Porcupine Tree have intensified over the last 2 years following the band's signing to Warner Brothers in the States. They will embark on their 5th tour in support of the new album when they play across Europe this November.
In between tours Richard has found time to produce the debut album for the
American group Adom and continues to play live with the H Band.
He is currently programming sounds for the Roland Corporation and Native
Instruments and , time permitting, plans to start work on a solo album

KARN
Mick has had a studio album ready for release since the beginning of the year. To allow Mick to play live, we have decided to release this album on another label who will provide the required financial tour support. More Better Different will be released towards the end of September. We will keep you informed as and when dates are confirmed, anticipated to take place at the beginning of next year.

MORE BETTER DIFFERENT UPDATE
There are reviews in Q, Uncut and Bass Player.

MORE BETTER DIFFERENT REVIEWS
EXPOSE
It's quite a rare thing to be known as great bassist - I mean, who remembers the bassist? They stand in the shadows and look moody; it's just what bassists do. Mick Karn bucks this trend like a tacky fair-ground ride. Karn was the first member of Japan to have a solo record and more than 20 years later More Better Different is as exciting as Japan were in the late 70s. Broadly an avant-garde album, More Better Different really is a work of art. All the tracks have a central core of Karn's fretless bass around which is weaved a fantastic tapestry of sounds. To call this album ambient does it a huge disservice, but by its very nature More Better Different is sublime mood music. At times beautiful and strangely unnerving, Karn has created something truly special. - Ali Burge, Expose.

BASS PLAYER MAGAZINE
Karn has quietly remained one of the most distinctive bass voices since his unusual fretless submelodies provided a strange yet catchy foundation for ’80s art-rock quartet Japan. On his latest solo effort, a ghostly and playful soundscape provides the perfect backdrop for Karn’s idiosyncratic fretless approach, in which oddly accented notes add a disjointed, angular quality to his melodic swoops and smears.

UNCUT
Twenty years on from Japan, Karn is still the bass players' bass player, only a lot less dull than that might sound. His consistently groundbreaking, idiosyncratic technique has bubbled and brooded through a series of solo LPs and "no 1 in the Far East" collaborations. this self-made slab of serenity sees him melding guitars, clarinet, samples and spoken word in nine mood pieces which swing from winningly funky ("The Jump") to cinematic noodling ("The End Gag"). I can't imagine anyone into Eno, Sylvian, Talk Talk or, for that matter, the better Radiohead tracks finding it less than transporting and beautifully optimistic.
